Opportunity to apply for NIDR scholarship - Gathering 2026

The Centre of Excellence: Young People and Disasters is supporting 10 young people to attend the 2026 NIDR Gathering event. 

  • 5 dedicated scholarships available for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander young people  

  • 5 ‘ally’ scholarships available for non-Indigenous young people 

What’s included in the scholarship:

  • Ticket to the full 3-day event and ‘Welcome Reception’ 

  • On-site camping accommodation at the Lake Tyres Trust  

  • Out-of-pocket expenses (meals not provided at the event)  

  • Travel to and from the event  

How to apply:

To apply for this opportunity, please complete this form by Sunday 5th April 2026. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and we may close the opportunity early if all spots get filled.

Your Commitment

The Gathering runs from Tuesday 5th May to Thursday 7th May 2026 and you will need to be available for each day.

You also need to commit to attending two additional 1-hour meetings with YACVic staff and other scholarship recipients:

  • A briefing meeting before the conference on Tuesday 28th April, 5:30pm - 6:30pm.

  • A debrief meeting after the conference on Monday 11th May, 5:30pm - 6:30pm.

If you are under 18, you will be required to have a parent or guardian complete a consent form and meet with the YACVic team online, as we will need extra details including medical form and emergency contacts. You will need to tell us if you’re under guardianship orders, or if VACCA are involved in your care or living arrangements.
